TIGER SWALLOWTAIL CATERPILLAR OFF TO PUPATE
We had two eastern tiger swallowtail caterpillars on one of our serviceberries this year. Sunday morning one of them got a lot darker, and a few hours later I spotted it on the ground. It explored the mulch and our retaining wall made out of railroad ties, and I eventually lost it underneath lots of plants and fallen leaves. Apparently these caterpillars can form a chrysalis either on the ground or on the tree.
