CARDINAL FEEDING JUVENILE COWBIRD

The brown-headed cowbird lays its eggs in the nests of other birds (birds that do this are known as "brood parasites").  They don't build nests or raise their own young, instead they let the bird whose nest they've "borrowed" do all that.  It's common for the cowbirds that hatch to out-compete the other hatchlings.  In this video a cardinal is feeding a juvenile brown-headed cowbird that presumably hatched in its nest.  Male cardinals' parenting instincts are so strong, however, that I have seen them feeding juveniles of other species of birds as well.
