We thought we had a lot of tadpoles in our fountain last August, but there are so many more right now. I never even noticed any eggs in the water. I don't know yet what type of frog or toad these will be. Occasionally I drop some grass or some pulled weeds into the water to give them more to eat, but eventually most tadpoles become cannibalistic. When we have tadpoles in the fountain, we have to turn off the pump or else they get sucked through the tube and deposited in the top basin where they ride the waterfall back down. In the last shot of the video an underwater beetle goes zipping through. I slowed it down because it's so fast. My best guess is that it's a Water Scavenger Beetle. This is another situation where providing a new habitat -- in this case a body of water -- can attract different wildlife to your yard.
