BOX TURTLE EXCAVATING NEST
Here’s an amazing story of life coming full-circle. We saw this box turtle excavating a nest (it‘s sped up in the video because she was digging at, well, turtle speed). We eventually left the turtle alone so we wouldn’t interrupt any egg-laying. We also left the nest site alone, then forgot about it until one year later when we found a baby box turtle in the same spot (that‘s a quarter he‘s crawling over to give you an idea of his size.) Over the last few years he’s disappeared for long periods of time before showing back up. Most recently he moved into a toad house in a flower bed -- a flower bed I built in the exact spot where he was born!
